Recycling in the Banana Patch

Where I live bananas grow, but after my first harvest I am learning the full story of the banana plant has many surprises.

Following what I have been taught I cut down the banana tree after harvesting its bunch.

I was about to leave the cut banana stems on the soil to break down but a Facebook post alerted me to the possibility of planting seedlings in holes in the newly cut stems.

The stem is full of water and as it decomposes it
creates  nutrient rich soil.

I must confess cutting the holes in the stems was more difficult than anticipated but I did succeed.

Now look forward to seeing how these little seedlings grow.
